Abstract

In the manufacture of cement concrete, the aggregate, or a part thereof, is coated with a thin layer of bitumen and is dusted with a mineral filler or fine sand before being mixed with the cement. The weight of the bitumen is not more than 1 per cent of the weight of the treated aggregate. In an example, a concrete mix comprises 1300 kgs. of chippings coated with about 10 kgs. of bitumen and dusted with about 60 kgs. of filler or very fine sand, 700 kgs. of sand, 300 kgs. of cement and 156 kgs. of water.
