Abstract

In a process for the construction of roads, aerodromes and floors by the compression of mixtures of bitumens or bituminous compositions and mineral aggregate, a filling material is employed which is prepared by treating acid sludge, obtained in the refining of mineral oils or mineral oil fractions with H2SO4, with an excess of an alkaline earth oxide or hydroxide, preferably lime. In an example, a filler is prepared by mixing 1 part by weight of acid sludge with 2 1/2 parts by weight of lime to form a powder. 2 Kgms. of the latter are mixed with 100 Kgms. of wet sand and subsequently 5 Kgms. of bitumen cut back with a viscosity of 40 - 80 poises at 25 DEG C. are added and the product spread on the road and rolled.
