Abstract

631,290. Controlling aircraft. GENERAL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., PROWER, C. W., and CHILDS, A. F. Sept. 3, 1947, No. 24341. [Class 4] A multi-engined aircraft fitted with control surface locks is provided with a throttle control lever locking mechanism which prevents simultaneous movement of all throttle levers for take off of the aircraft with the flying controls locked but permits of some of the engines being operated for taxying purposes. The throttle control locking device comprises a sliding plate 4 fitted with a hand grip and sliding in guides 5 mounted on the control quadrant 1. Two levers 6 are pivoted at 7 to the underside of the plate 4 and are urged towards one another by a spring 8, the movement of each lever being limited by a slot and pin arrangement 10, 11. The inner face of each lever 6 is formed with a cam face 9 so that when the plate 4 is moved into contact with the throttle control levers 2 movement of the central throttle levers will cause them to bear on the cam faces 9 to urge the levers 6 outwards to a position where they overlap the guide slots of the outer throttle levers which are then prevented from opening beyond a limited slow running position. If full movement is applied to the outer throttle levers they will act as lateral stops to prevent outward movement of the levers 6 caused by pressure of the central throttle levers on the cam faces 9. A plate 19, secured to the underside of the plate 4, is apertured at 18 to engage a spring-loaded plunger 15, released by a trigger 12, to hold the plate 4 in its locking position. A cable control 20 is attached to the plate 4 and is coupled to the flying control surface locks to ensure simultaneous actuation thereof with the throttle locks. In an alternative arrangement (Fig. 6, not shown), the plate 4 does not slide but is pivoted at its end remote from the throttle levers, the cable 20 being connected to a lever attached to the plate 4.
