Abstract
632,770. Control lever mechanism. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and TREVASKIS, H. W. Nov. 1, 1947, No. 29200. [Class 136 (i)] A device for actuating a brake cable or like motion transmitting means comprises a hand lever and a support in which one end of the hand lever is constrained to move along a straight line and a part of the lever intermediate of the two ends is constrained to move over a predetermined path whereby the hand lever is angularly movable relatively to the support. As shown, the support is in the form of a plate 2 fixed to a protuberance on a movable control column 1. The lower end of the lever 7 comprises two side plates 8, 8, disposed on either side of the plate 2. A pin 9 passes through a slot 4 in the plate and has its ends in the side plates 8, 8. A roller 10 connected to the cable I is mounted on a pin 13 in a straight slot 3 in the plate, the slot being substantially parallel to the control column 1. Another roller 12 is similarly mounted on a pin 28 between the plates 8, 8 and is in contact with a cam surface 6 in the periphery of the plate 2. A lug 16 is formed integral with one of the side plates 8 and has a screw-threaded hole engaged by a set-screw 17. Adjacent the set-screw is a detent 24 projecting from a disc 20 mounted in a bearing boss 21 rigid with the protuberance of the control column 1. A spring-loaded ball 26 carried by a knob 23 integral with the disc 20 co-operates with one of two depressions 25 formed in the boss 21. When the lever 7 is in the off position as in Fig. 3 the set-screw 17 projects below the disc 20. On actuation of the lever 7 the pin 9 moves towards the upper end of slot 4 and the set-screw moves up to the position shown in Fig. 4. When the knob 23 is in the position shown in Fig. 3 the brakes can be released or applied. If it is desired to leave the brake fully applied the knob 23 is moved over to the position shown in Fig. 4 so that the detent 24 lies across the path of the screw 17.
