Abstract
641,514. Actuation of switches. STOKOE, C. L., and MONITOR PATENT SAFETY DEVICES, Ltd. March 17, 1948, No. 7968. [Class 38(v)] Limit switches f, g having resilientlymounted contacts comprise a spindle m having arms H, L actuated by a guide plate c on a rod b attached to a float a in a liquid tank, the level of the liquid therein being indicated by a pointer j on a graduated plate d. Each switch has an insulating tappet o which is mounted on the spindle m and engages a weight member i to break the connection between the switch contacts a, b, and make the connection between the contacts c, d. The switch arms H, L can pivot in one direction, against the action of a spring y so that the plate c, Fig. 3, will move the arms out of its path if the switch is incorrectly set and are fixed in the opposite direction against movement. Snap-operation is provided by a spring q which crosses the axis of the spindle to cause a lever t thereon, attached at one end to the spring, to move rapidly between two stops u, v. The position of the switches can be varied by mounting them in slots in a bracket and they may operate either an indicating lamp and alarm system or a control circuit.
