Abstract
905,226. Fluid actuation of switches. NOSENZO, F., and LUNATI, L. Dec. 19, 1958 [Dec. 20, 1957], No. 41049/58. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XVIII] A switch for actuation when the liquid in a tank, for example, in an hydraulic braking system, falls below a predetermined level, comprises contacts situated outside the tank 1 and operated by a spring-loaded rod 7 engaging the top of a float 3 movable in a cylinder 4 depending from the tank cover 2. A spring 5 urges the rod 7 against the float 3 with a force less than the normal upward hydrostatic thrust of the float. The rod 7 is guided in a sleeve 8 fitted in an insulating plate 9 fixed to the cover 2. In the embodiment of Fig. 1, the plate 9 carries spring blade contacts 121 and 12<SP>11</SP> which are bridged when the liquid level falls by a metal head 10 shaped as shown and mounted on rod 7, being insulated therefrom if the latter is not itself of insulating material. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2), the plate 9 carries a fixed contact 15 and a moving contact 14 mounted on a resilient blade 13 through which the rod 7 extends as shown. The blade 13 tends to move contact 14 away from contact 15 but with a force less than that of spring 5 such that when the liquid level falls the head 10 on a rod 7 moves the blade 13 to close the contacts. A transparent cap 16 (Fig. 2) may be fitted to either embodiment.
