Abstract

1,221,772. Brake-fluid level-indicators. SOVY (U.K.) Ltd. 21 Feb., 1968 [23 Jan., 1967], No. 3378/67. Heading F2E. [Also in Divisions G1 and H1] A device for use in an hydraulic brake fluid system to indicate either sudden losses of brake fluid or that the brake system needs replenishing with brake fluid comprises switch terminals 22 fixed to a mounting member 12 in a container 11 and a movable disc shaped terminal 23 mounted on a rod 27 outwardly biased by a spring 30. The rod 27 is connected by a cord 37 to a rod 36 attached to a cap 35 secured to the end of a flexible, fluid-impervious bellows 31 made, for example, of polyvinyl chloride. The bellows is surrounded by a guard 41. Liquid enters the container through a pipe 51 and as its level rises, the buoyancy effect on the bellows raises the bottom of the bellows to slacken the cord sufficiently at a predetermined depth thus allowing the spring 30 to break the contact between the switch terminals. The switch may control a pump to maintain the liquid level at the predetermined depth.
