Abstract

672,695. Automatic web-tension control systems. HOE & CO., Ltd., R. March 14, 1950 [March 14, 1949], No. 6975/49. Class 38 (iv). In an automatic web-tensioning system comprising a jockey-pulley operating a two-way switch controlling a reversible brake adjusting motor, the datum-tension is adjusted by a nut and screw mechanism 22 which rocks a plate 19 carrying the pivot 26 for the switch-actuating cam 32. The cam 32 is rocked by a link 29 connected to the jockey pulley, Fig. 1 (not shown), an bears on the roller end 33 of a spring- loaded moving contact carrier 35 adapted to bridge fixed contacts 37 or 38. Tension adjustment may be made by a handle 53 or remotely by switches controlling a motor, Fig. 7 (not shown), belt driving the pulley 24<SP>1</SP>. A mechanical limit stop prevents jamming of the nut and screw mechanism at the limit of travel, Fig. 5 (not shown). A potentiometer 50 moved by a linkage 46 ... 48 from the cam 32 may be used to provide a remote electrical indication of the tension.
