Abstract

511,153. Control mechanism for brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., BEHARRELL, G. E., WRIGHT, J., and TREVASKIS, H. Feb. 11, 1938, No. 4313. [Class 136 (i)] [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIII] Means for controlling the operation of brakes on aircraft include a manually-operated pivoted lever provided with adjustable means adapted to co-act with a fixed stop for determining the angular movement of the lever, and a pivoted detent or catch for holding the lever at the limit of its angular movement. In the construction shown, a lever 1 is pivotally mounted on a pin 2 fixed to a ring handle 3 provided on a flying control column 4. The lever has two lugs, one having the brake cable 6 secured thereto, the other being apertured to receive a grub screw 5. The cable 6 passes through a sleeve 7 integral with the handle 3 and carrying a pin 9 on which a detent 8 is pivotally mounted. When the lever 1 is moved to tension the cable 6, the screw 5 contacts with a sleeve 7a on the pin 9. The lever is locked in position by means of the detent 8 which is moved so that the surface 10 is behind the rear end of the screw 5. The extent of movement of the lever 1 is determined by the position of the grub screw within the aperture in the lug 1a.
