Abstract
631,065. Mechanical switches without quick-action; press-button switches; switch handles. PORTERIE, A. Sept. 30, 1947. No. 26396. Convention date; Oct. 2, 1946. [Class 38(v)] The rotatable handlebar grip of a motorcycle or similar vehicle operates a switch to control lighting circuits and has combined with it a press-button switch to control an electric horn. The handlebar grip 4 has an insulating shoulder 5 carrying a conductor plate 7 which permanently engages a spring contact stud 15, Fig. 3; connected to the vehicle battery. In the position shown the lighting switch is "off," the spring biassed tongue 10 of the plate 7 engaging a depression 17 in the fixed part 2 of the switch. The grip may be turned so that tongue 10 engages one of the contacts 18 .. 20, to complete the desired lighting circuit. The tail lamp of the vehicle is connected to a spring contact 16 which is. engaged by the plate 7 in all the "on" positions. The total movement of the grip is determined by the engagement of a spring abutment 26 in a sector-shaped recess 21 in the shoulder 5, and the individual switch positions are determined by the engagement of this abutment in depressions 22 .. 25 in the recess 21. The plunger 13 of the press-button switch is connected via a terminal 14 to the horn and when depressed engages the flanged edge 12 of the plate 7 to complete the horn circuit.
