[Class 146 (iii)] In a fountain pen of the ball-point type, the ball is so mounted as to be capable of yielding resiliently both in the direction of the pen axis and in a direction normal to the axis. In one form, Fig. 1, the ball housing 1 fits in a rubber sleeve 2 secured to the barrel 4, and is attached to the reservoir 6 by a flexible connection 7. A rubber sleeve 8 is fitted between the reservoir and the casing. In a modification, the housing 1 and reservoir 6 are rigidly connected, the reservoir abutting at its inner end against a hollow rubber or other resilient block 9. An enlarged part 11 between the members 1, 6 is spaced from the end of the barrel 4 by a rubber washer 12 and bears on its other face against a rubber bush 10 through which the reservoir 6 passes. Clearance 13 is provided in the outer end of the barrel 4 to allow lateral movement of the housing 1. The reservoir 6 may be a capillary tube as described in Specification 573,747. Specifications 571,698 and 629,226 also are referred to. The Provisional Specification describes a construction similar to that shown in Fig. 3, but wherein the parts 10, 12 are omitted and only axial movement of the members 1, 6 is permitted.. In this construction, the block 9 may be replaced by a spring.
