[Class 146 (iii)] A multiple writing instrument having two writing members comprises a nib 3 and ball point 4 provided with ink containers 6 and 7 of semi-circular cross-section mounted within a casing 1 so as to allow of projection or retraction of either container, the aperture 2 in the casing 1 through which the writing members pass into the writing position being of the same size and cross section as one container. The movement of the containers is effected by two helical grooves 10 and 11 and two pairs of annular grooves each pair of annular grooves extending through 180 degrees and being joined together by a longitudinal groove engaged by a ball which on rotation of a bush 12 surrounding the two rear ends of the containers 6 and 7 causes alternately a longitudinal movement as well as an exchange of place within the casing 1 of the two containers. The helical grooves 10 and 11 are formed in the rear ends of the containers 6 and 7 and cooperate with a ball 21 fixed in the bush 12 which is rotatable but axially secured in the casing 1. The forward ends of the containers 6, 7 are provided, respectively, with longitudinal grooves 13, 14 and annular grooves 15, 17 and 16, 18, while balls 19 and 20 secured in the casing 1 guide the containers longitudinally. When the bush 12 is rotated through 180 degrees counter clockwise the containers 6 and 7, whin the positionn in Fig. 1, are preventedwohn es from rotating by the ball 20 engaging the groove 14 so that the container 6 is projected longitudinally. Clockwise rotation of the bush 12 causes retraction of the container 6 until the groove 17 is opposite the ball 19, further rotation causes rotation of the two containers in the casing I and ultimately projection of the container 7. The container 6 is filled by a piston 23 having a screwed piston rod 22. Two reservoir pens with nibs or two ball point pens may be provided instead of one of each as shown. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that grooves 10 and 11 may be formed in the bush 12, while the grooves 13-18 may be formed in a bush fixed to the casing 1 in which case the balls 19, 20 and 21 are secured to the containers 6 and 7. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
