Class 146(3) A pen or pencil comprises a pair of writing units c, e.g. ball-point writing units, slidably mounted for projection from or concealment in a holder, a rotatable member e having a right-hand helical groove formed along one part of its length and a left-hand helical groove formed along another part of its length, and a pair of slides g, each slide engaging one of the helical grooves with one end and one of the writing units with the other end so that rotation of the member e will move the slides g in opposite axial directions and thereby effect corresponding movement of the writing units. The slides g are axially slideable in longitudinal, internal grooves f formed in the rear part b of the holder. The member e is not longitudinally displaceable and has an extension projecting through the rear end of the holder portion b, to which extension a rotatable finger piece h is attached.. Rotation of the finger piece h and member e in one direction causes one writing unit c to be projected from the holder and the other retracted into it, while rotation thereof in the opposite direction causes the motions of the units to be reversed.
