Abstract

630,151. Knitting. FOSTER, Ltd., W. & J., and HUMPHREYS, J. F. Jan. 11, 1947, No. 989. [Class 74 (ii)] A set-up comb comprises teeth 2, each formed of a piece of flat-faced (e.g. half-round) wire bent upon itself to form two arms with an eye at their junction (e.g. a split-pin) secured to a bar 1 (or to a strip secured thereto), a cover strip 6 and end cover-pieces 7 being provided. The comb is made in a jig comprising co-acting blocks 9, 12, pressed together by clamps 13 and provided with complementary grooves to receive the teeth 2, the eyed ends of which abut against a plate 16, the bar 1 being meanwhile supported by an angle member 20. The protrusion of the teeth from the comb body may be varied by using different abutment plates 16, or a stepped plate, or by inserting shims between the plate and the block 9. The teeth eyes 4 are aligned by a wire or rod 19 which is of greater cross-section than the retaining wire to be used with the comb.
