Class 120(1) Each needle bar as at 18 'or 102 of a half-lap combing cylinder comprises a part cylindrical base portion 30 or 132 having opposite side faces of which one has an arcuate profile and the other has a profile shaped to a sliding fit around the arcuate profile, i.e. the profiles are coinciding with, circumscribed around. or inscribed within circular areas. As shown, a comb segment comprising a number of such bars interconnected by flexible tie rods 34 and clamping bars 42, 44, is secured to a body member 12 so that the bars are correctly positioned as a result of their interfitted relationship in conformance with - the arcuate surface 16 on which they bear. Spacing components having the same form as the base portions may be incorporated in the segment. The projection of the needles beyond the bars to which they are secured decreases as the fineness of the needles increases: this is compensated by mounting the member 12 eccentrically on the comb hub by means of a shim 24, or by employing bars having needle carrying portions 28 of increasing length and with base portions of similar or increasing dimensions..
