Abstract
629,880. Press-button retractive switches. ADAMANT ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and MALTRAVERS, F.G. Dec. 30, 1947, No. 34757. [Class 30(v)] A push-button switch mounted at the centre of a vehicle steering wheel has a stem or plunger 15 axially movable in a bore 14 in the upper end of the steering column 10. The stem 15 has an inclined cam surface 22, which co-operates with a thrust piece 23 slidable in a radial bore 24 in the column 10. When the button 16 on the end of the stem 15 is depressed, the thrust piece 23 moves one end of a split contact ring 25 outwardly into engagement with a contact ring 31 mounted in an insulating bush 32 supported on the upper end of a tube 11 enclosing the steering column. When the button is released the stem 15 is returned by a spring 21, the limits of the movements of the stem being determined by a screw which enters a groove 18 in the stem. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the thrust piece 23 serves as the moving contact member, a flat spring being provided to return the thrust piece 23 to its original position when the button is released.
