Abstract

629,727. Wire couplings. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES; Ltd., HOLLAND, .J., and BROOM, T. C. Oct. 9, 1947, No. 27106. [Class 38 (i)] A splice for grooved trolley wires 1, 2, arranged side-by-side, comprises pairs of gripping devices 3, 5, spaced apart at the free ends of the wires. The gripping screws 3 are mounted in pillars 4 provided with jaws 5, and bite into the wires against their pull. Each pillar is integral with an arm 6 which engages the grooves of the wire 2 between the jaw-shaped projections 5. The arm 6 has extensions 7, 8 which have a jaw-shaped projection 10 and co-operate with a vertical arm 12 which is provided with a similar projection 11 and is clamped to the wire 1 by screws 14. Two such splicing fittings are placed on each wire end to abut one another and thereby resist the tension on the wires; alternatively the two fittings may be made integral with one another.
