[Class 44] [Also in Groups XVII and XXXVI] A cover 6 is held on a duct or channel, or a food-container &c. 2 by a screw passing through a hole 14 and into a threaded hole in a rivet 11 which joins a spring-strip 9 to a stiff backing-plate 10, the strip 9 extending beyond the backing- plate and into slots 5 in the rim of the channel into and from which it may be snapped by deflecting the strip when the cover 6 is detached. Lugs 12 prevent the plate 10 rotating. In a modification, the strip 9 has a tongue extending at each end to pass through holes in the rim, either when the strip is flexed or if the backing-plate is forced past the lugs 12. As applied to a cylindrical container, the plate 10 and strip 9 are replaced by discs, the spring disc entering an annular groove, e.g. to form a substantially airtight closure which may receive a central screw or clip from a dished and flanged outer cover. The spring disc may be of rubber and may have radial slits. The discs may aid in forcing out the contents of a container if its other end be opened, e.g. by a tin-opener.
