Abstract

1,223,396. Braking centrifugal separators. WESTFALIA SEPARATOR A.G 20 Aug., 1969 [27 Sept., 1968], No. 41477/69. Heading B2P. [Also in Division F2] In a centrifugal separator a brake assembly for braking the rotary separator drum 2 comprises an annular member 3 of U-shaped or channel cross-section which is open at its inner periphery and has one or more openings 8 leading outwards, a braking member 4 projecting into the interior 7 of the annular member and a line 5 for supplying brake fluid to the interior of the annular member, one of the members being secured to the drum 2 and the other to a stationary frame 1. As shown, the annular member 3 is fixed to the frame 1 and the member 4 which may be ribbed, is secured to the drum 2. Brake fluid controlled by a valve 6 in the line 5 is sprayed against the member 4 and is centrifuged thereby into the interior of the member 3. Alternatively, the annular member 3 is fixed to the drum, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the braking member 4 to the frame 1. The brake fluid is sprayed against the base of the drum 2 and is centrifuged thereby into the interior 7 of the member 3.
