Abstract
629,119. Permutation locks. TRIX, Ltd., THORMAN ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., H. J., PRIOR, F. J., and BRINKWORTH, C. March 7, 1947, No. 6418. [Class 44] A permutation lock device comprises two members attached to the ends of a length of chain or the like for securing cycles, gates &c., one member carrying lettered locking rings and the other carrying a locking bar adapted to be locked in the first member, the lettered locking rings being so constructed and means provided that the aligning of the letters on turning the rings is indicated by the sense of touch. The lock comprises a body 2, Fig. 4, with a stem 4 having a longitudinal slot 5 with an enlarged base 6, Fig. 3, and two smaller slots 7 in which are engaged the ends of springs 19. On the stem 4 are rotatably mounted lettered rings 12, each formed with an end wall having an aperture 14 of such size as to fit rotatably on the stem 4, and an enlarged bore 16 in which are a number of recesses 17. One of the recesses in each ring corresponds with a slot 15 in the end wall. The springs 19 engage in the recesses as the rings are turned; spacing washers 21 are provided between the rings. The locking bar 10 carried by the member 8 is adapted to enter the slot 5, and has teeth 11 which then project therefrom and engage the end walls of the rings unless the latter are set to align the slots 15.
