Abstract

1,089,226. Stud and socket fastenings. J. J. McCARTHY. April 1, 1966 [May 4, 1965], No. 14558/66. Heading E2B. In a two part releasable fastener one part has a bar 14, the other part comprising a tubular member 18 having notches 20 in one end portion adapted to receive said bar, a latch member 22 turnable and axially movable in said tubular member between an advanced latching position and a retracted releasing position, co-operable guide means causing the latch member to turn in the tubular member as it is moved between said positions, means 44 for resiliently biassing the latch member to its advanced position, means 58 for moving the latch member from advanced to retracted positions, said latching member having a protruding latching formation 54 engageable with the said bar when the latter is in the notches of the tubular member with the latching member advanced, thereby to retain the bar, said formation releasing the bar when the latching member is shifted to retracted position. In the construction shown there are two formations 54 one co-operating with each of the notches 20 in the tubular member. The guide means consists of cam slots 34, 36 in the tubular member and a pin 40 which engages the guide slots; the pin passes through elongated slots 38 in the latch member and its end portions are engaged by the moving means 58 which as shown is a collar axially slidable on the tubular member 18. Each protruding latching formation is a wall of a respective recess 24 in the latch member 22. The bar 14 is carried by a tubular body 16 in which the tubular .member 18 can be inserted. Both the body 16 and the tubular member 18 can be portions of structures which are to be releasably secured together or can be secured to such structures.
