Abstract
620,947. Door locks and latches. GOLTEN, M. (formerly GOLDSTEIN, M.). Feb. 3, 1947, No. 3231. [Class 44] A tumbler lock comprises a box body, a locking bolt 11, Fig. 1, having a web 16 spaced midway between the side walls, two tumblers 22A, 22B on either side of the web, co-operating with across piece 17 riveted to the web 16 and a key the bit of which is symmetrical about its middle line. The key bit 35, Fig. 9, is formed with a middle part C to engage a notch in the web 16 and two steps A, B, C, D on each side. The tumblers are spaced asymmetrically as shown in Fig. 3 and arranged so that each is engaged by a step of the key bit of the appropriate height irrespective of the side from which the key is introduced. The tumblers are pivotally mounted on a common pin 20 fixed to the body and have identical gate openings 26. the edges co-operating with the key bit are differently shaped so that operation of the key raises all the tumblers through the same angle. The tumblers are loaded by a spring 31 split into separate fingers and mounted on a pin 32. Another limb 33 of the spring actuates a latch bolt 12 arranged to be reversible for use on either side of a door. In another form two or more tumblers are provided on each side of the web, four or as many steps as tumblers being provided on each side of the middle portion of the key bit.
