Abstract

628,590. Knitting. SCOTT & WILLIAMS, Inc. Nov. 17, 1944, No. 16201/47. Convention date, Nov. 13, 1943. Divided out of 628,526. [Class 74 (ii)] To facilitate recognition of the loopers' rounds formed on the completion of the reciprocatory knitted toe of a stocking, so that they may readily be placed on the points of a looping- machine, the first course of rotary knitting is knitted of the same yarn as the last course of reciprocatory knitting. The stocking is knitted of two yarns Y, Y<SP>1</SP>, simultaneously, as is described in Specification 628,526, and the toe is knitted by reciprocatory knitting of the two yarns such that two courses of one yarn alternate with two courses of the other yarn. On recommencing rotary knitting, the first course 2 is of the same yarn as the last course 1 of reciprocatory knitting and is knitted as a loose course for the purpose of forming loopers' rounds. The second course 3 is knitted of contrasting yarn and also as a loose course. Thereafter rotary knitting continues normally using the contrasting yarns in alternation. The courses 2, 1, being the last two adjacent courses knitted of the same yarn, permits the loopers' rounds, formed by the first course 2 of rotary knitting, to be easily recognised and readily selected for positioning on a looping-machine.
