627,487. Centrifugally-actuated clutches. MER- 'CURY CLUTCH CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1945, No. 34453. Convention date, July 24. Addition to 626,046. [Class 80 (ii)] In a modification of the centrifugal clutch of the parent Specification the gland 6 is axially retained by side plates 4, 5 which carry axially movable pressure plates 12 with friction facings 14 for engagement with the side plates 17, 19 of the driven member. The pressure plates are acted upon by springs 16 to disengage the clutch and a series of radial grooves 25 are provided on the inner surfaces of the gland walls to facilitate the action of the liquid, such as mercury, under centrifugal force in expanding the walls of the gland to engage the clutch.
