Abstract

916,847. Overload-release clutches. ANDEBSON, BOYES & CO. Ltd. May 1, 1961 [May 5, 1960], No. 15919/60. Class 80 (2). In a spring-engaged fliction clutch 5, one set of centrifugal masses 10 assisting engagement is rendered ineffective on clutch overload, causing an opposing set 8 to disengage the clutch. Two axially movable end-plates 7, 9 rotatably connected to a driving-cage 3 and driven sleeve 15, respectively, are held in balanced opposition by radially moving centrifugal masses 8, 10 pressing axially through inclined faces 13, 14 and remain ineffective until overload causes clutch slip and consequent retardation of the driven member, whereupon the masses 10 disengage from the plate 12 and clutch disengagement is effected by the resulting unbalanced thrust of the masses 8. The clutch is reengaged by stopping both driving and driven members.
