Abstract
625,979. Knitting-machines. BEVINS, F. July 29, 1946, No. 22504. [Class 74 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] A spring-loaded feeler blade 1 can move endwise, or rock about a pivot pin 3, or do both, so that a contact 5 which it carries can " make " with either of faces 12, 13 of a contact 11, borne on a block 6 in which the feeler is mounted. The block is carried on one of the knitting cam carriages 20 and the end 2 of the feeler is located between the needles of the two beds, close to the point where the fabric leaves the needles. The feeler is housed in a longitudinal groove 7 in the block and the bottom of the transverse recess housing the pin 3 is formed with an incline 17. The device may be used to detect a load-up, which would move the feeler endwise, or rock it ; a faulty needle, which would rock the end 2 outwardly, or jammed yarn guides 21, which would deflect the end 2 inwardly, causing the pin 3 to ride along the incline 17. It may also be used to detect abnormal tension or breakage of the yarn, or failure of supply. The device may form part of a stop motion as/or give a visual or aural warning signal. The device may be made to clear a bracket, which would otherwise obstruct its traverse, by engagement of a roller on the device with cam located adjacent to the bracket.
