Abstract

716,549. Stop-motion. TRIP-LITE, Ltd. June 11, 1952 [April 16, 1951], No. 8767/51. Class 120(2). [Also in Group VIII] A stop-motion for a textile machine comprises a pivoted support 7 over which the yarn passes and which is held by a spring 25 against a bar 33. Freely pivoted feeler arms 12 rest on the yarn passing over the support so that in the event of yarn breakage or a decrease in tension the feelers drop to cause an electrical contact to be engaged thereby effecting stoppage of the machine. Similarly, if the tension of the yarn is unduly increased, the support 7 is pulled down permitting the arms 12 to drop to stop the machine as before. The spring 25 is connected to a crank 4 of the support whereby an over-centre movement is achieved so that after the support has passed the central position it is urged into an extreme position simultaneously permitting the yarn to slip from it. Variation in the tension of the spring 25 influencing the support 7 is achieved by turning a knob to wind up or release a cord 28 attached at one end to a spindle 26 on which the knob is secured.
