Abstract
624,760. Swivelling couplings. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 8, 1947, No. 18056. Convention date, Aug. 12, 1943. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A coaxial cable 42 passes through the tubular inner conductor 51 of a coaxial line 50, and couplings are formed in all four conductors so as to permit relative rotation of two sections of the lines. Outer conductor 50, Fig. 8, is formed with a capacity coupling formed by a quarter-wave extension 56 of fixed tube 55 overlapping tube 50, and a spaced quarterwave sleeve 57 brazed to tube 50. Alignment is ensured by connecting conductor 50 to rotatable tube 60 which is mechanically coupled to fixed tube 55 by a bearing 47. A similar capacity joint is formed at the upper part of inner conductor 51 by two quarter wavelengths 65, 67, Fig. 9, overlapped by an outer section 68. The braided outer cable of line 42 is supported in an enclosing steel tube 70 which makes rotatable connection with contact fingers 73 connected to an outlet bush 83. The inner conductor 78 rotates in a split socket 79 carried by a centre outlet conductor 80.
