Abstract

624,474. Tensioning conveyer chains. KING, Ltd., G. W., and KING, D. M. Feb. 3, 1947, No. 3227. [Class 78 (i)] Chains of the type described in Specifications 417,134 and 438,975, [both in Group XXV], which comprise collapsable links, are tensioned by imparting a drive thereto, and subsequently applying a braking effect which in conjunction with the drive collapses the links and causes tensioning of the chain. The braking device comprises a movable elongated plate 10, and a skid plate 11 which is secured to a channelled member 20. The movable plate 10 is supported by pins 13 which are mounted in a channelled member 14, and is urged towards the fixed plate by means of coil springs 15. Small plates 16 provide a second bearing for the pins. Channelled members 14 and 20 are rigidly supported by a plurality of U-shaped members 21 which may be mounted on a joist (not shown) which serves as a track for chain supporting trolleys (not shown). The driving means 24 comprises an endless driving chain adapted to engage the conveyer chain as it approaches the braking device, a slot 25, Fig. 3, being made in the end of plate 11 to allow passage of the chain.
