[Class 104 (ii)] In conveyers of the kind wherein carriers are moved along a track by abutments on a driving chain, two or more chains are driven at differing speeds and at one or more-points along the track the chains have portions adjacent so that the drive of the carriers may be transferred at such point of adjacency from one chain to the other. The transfer is effected by converging and diverging the chains either in a vertical or a horizontal plane or by extending one chain beyond a portion of the carrier track which follows the line of the other chain, Fig. 6 (not shown). As applied to a refrigerating room, the high speed charging chain 10, Fig. 5, with abutments 18, passes round driving and idler sprockets 22, 23 whilst the slow speed chain 11 which is located wholly within the cold room has abutments 19 and driving and idler sprockets 24, 25. Ramps 28 may be provided to rock the superseded abutments away from the carriers. The carriers 17 run on tracks 16, Fig. 23, comprising two channel members, and the abutments 18, 19 have wheels 12, 13 running on tracks 14, 15, the abutments 19 of the slower chain having pivoted parts 191 to allow over-running of the slower chain. To prevent excessive over-running, the chains also carry advance abutments 26, 27. An escapement control for the carriers comprises a pair of pivoted trip levers 29, Fig. 7, one to each channel member 16, with ends 33, 34 passing up through slots 32, 31 in the channels, one end 33 being engaged by the carrier wheels and the other end 34, when end 33 is so engaged, acting as a stop for the succeeding carrier wheels. The driving chains are preferably of the flat link type disclosed in Specification 438,875, [Group XXV].
