1344141 Passenger conveyers; endless conveyers R SALVADORINI 8 Sept 1971 [28 Dec 1970 25 Jan 1971 16 April 1971] 41907/71 Heading B8A A conveyer belt formed of a series of interlinked slats, has high speed sections 1a, 1b (Fig. 14), where the slats are in overlapped relation, and low speed sections where the slats are in lateral non-overlapping alignment, and where passengers may get on and off, at A and C. The return sections of the belt pass underground at A and C. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown) the arrangement may consist of only half the system of Fig. 13. In another arrangement (Figs. 15 to 17, not shown) the whole conveyer may be disposed in a straight line. The slats may carry triangular extensions (Fig. 19, not shown) so that when the slats are overlapped the edges of the belt may present a continuous edge. The belt may be in the form of a number of parallel rods 3 (Figs. 3 and 4), each pivotally connected to one pivot of each of a series of parallel linkages 4. The latter are formed by pivotally connected members 5. The inclination between the members (5) (Figs. 5 to 8, not shown) of each linkage and hence the conveyer speed at that part of the belt is controlled by the relative positioning of rails (10), (10), on which the members (5) are supported by the action of pulley wheels (9), (11), carried by a fork (8) on which each member (5) is mounted. Further guidance is provided by a pair of pulleys (14) carried by each member (5) which engage a flange carried by the adjacent member(s). The conveyer may be driven by separate motors connected to driving wheels at positions along the conveyer. These motors may be connected in pairs in parallel, the pairs being connected to each other in series (Fig. 12, not shown). The conveyer of the invention may be used as a service conveyer to take passengers from a stationary position to a constant speed conveyer (Figs. 23, 24). The latter consists of an endless chain of load supporting plates 41. These are pivotally connected together and are supported on running wheels 42. Seats 48 are provided, and there is also room for standing passengers. A non-moving guard rail 52 carries a hand rail 53 which moves at the same speed as the conveyer. At the points where the conveyer comes adjacent to the service conveyer, the rail 52 ceases.
