Abstract

624,102. Grain drying apparatus. INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER CO. OF GREAT BRITAIN, Ltd. (International Harvester Co.). Oct. 2, 1946, No. 29378. [Class 34(ii)] A grain drier of the type in which preheated air passes upwardly through a mass of grain in the drying chamber, has a conveying device at the top extending centrally and longitudinally to distribute the grain along the length of the chamber. In the preferred embodiment, grain is discharged from a perforated pipe 37 by a conveyer screw 40 to a drying chamber 42, the upper grain surfaces being represented by lines 59. A dome-shaped furnace 115 within a chamber 123 circulates its exhaust gases through superposed chambers 125- 127 and then through further conduits 130 surrounding a fan 18. Finally, these gases pass into a tubular member 132 within a casing 133 and are exhausted by a fan, not shown. Cool air, drawn into the fan 18 at 116, Fig. 4, is thereby pre-heated, and then pass from chambers 66-68 through outlets 60-65 and circulate upwardly through the 65 and circulate upwardly through the grain, being discharged through the open top. The grain is discharged to a conveyer 80 having nail-like projections 86, by grooved rollers 69 rotated intermittently, the grain travelling in the direction of arrows 90 and 91 along corrugated channels 89, to a discharge screw 92, Fig. 3. A proportion of the incoming cold air enters at 118, and thereby cools the hot dry grain on the corrugated plating.
