Abstract

551,576. Drying grain. PORTEUS, G. Jan. 2, 1942, Nos. 60 and 2567. [Class 34 (ii)] Grain is dried as it falls between the walls of a chamber 1 and a perforated inner shell 2 by a blast of heated or cold air from a fan 11 which delivers two air streams one of which enters the drying chamber through a branch 12 and the other feeds a pneumatic elevator duct 10 into which the grain from the dring chamber is delivered by a screw conveyer 7. The grain carried up the duct 10 is supplied to the top of the drying chamber for further treatment or is finally discharged through pipes 15. Wet grain may be carried from a hopper 14 to the elevator duct to effect initial charging of the drying chamber. The flow of grain through the chamber may be intermittently closed by a valve in the outlet 8. A second elevator may be provided to allow the treated grain to be discharged for sacking simultaneously with the elevation of wet grain for treatment.
