Abstract
623,638. Supply systems for space discharge apparatus; automatic regulation. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and TAYLOR, F. H. March 5, 1946, No. 6785. Drawings to Specification. [Class 38 (iv)] The voltages for the respective electrodes of a cathode-ray tube are derived from a seriesconnected chain of glow discharge tubes, connected between the D.C. supply leads, to ensure practically constant potential at the electrodes, with varying current, to dispense with byepass condensers, and to reduce the mass of the apparatus and the current drain of the system. Electrodes requiring intermediate potentials may be connected to taps on resistances shunted across certain glow tubes. High resistances may be shunted across all but one of the glow tubes to ensure that the correct striking voltage is available across each tube. The circuit may be supplied from a small permanent magnet 400 cycle alternator, driven by the rotary converter in an aircraft, and through a transformer and voltage doubling rectifier.
