[Class 38 (ii)] High voltage for the cathode-ray tube of a television receiver is generated by causing current to flow in an inductor in the anode circuit of a valve, the current being interrupted at less than line frequency to produce pulses which are rectified. The time during which current flows is made shorter than the time when it is interrupted. The control signal applied to the valve may be of saw-tooth or rectangular waveform superimposed on a negative biassing potential and exceeds the frame frequency.
