Abstract

746,175. Saw-tooth generating circuits. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd. July 31, 1953 [Aug. 26, 1952], No. 21436/52. Class 40 (6). In a saw-tooth current generator of the type in which an efficiency diode and an H.T. boost capacitor are connected across its inductive output circuit a negative bias is applied to the control grid of the output valve which is reduced when the diode conducts by means dependent on the current therethrough. This prevents excessive screen grid current flowing during the period before the diode has warmed up sufficiently to provide the H.T. potential for the output valve anode. In the circuit shown, the negative bias is offset by a voltage fed to the grid from a resistor 8 and obtained from the boost capacitor 4 when it has charged. In a television receiver the negative bias may be obtained by rectifying a voltage appearing in the valve heater chain or derived from the frame time-base (Figs. 2 and 3, not shown). Alternatively, the negative voltage from a blocking oscillator driving the saw-tooth generator may be used. Specification 746,176 is referred to.
