Abstract
970,320. Transistor sawtooth circuits. MARCONI CO. Ltd. June 21, 1962 [Oct. 17, 1961], No. 37233/61. Heading H3T. A sawtooth generator comprises a capacitor charged via a constant current transistor and discharged via a further transistor, the linearity being controlled by positive feedback. As shown, capacitor 10 is charged via transistor 1 having a degenerative emitter resistor 5 so as to pass approximately constant current and periodically discharged by transistor 2. Positive feedback is taken from an adjustable resistor in the collector circuit of an emitter follower 3. The resistor may be adjusted to provide a linear waveform or one with an upward curvature at the output 13. The output impedance may be zero or even negative. A potential divider 18, 19, 20 is provided to ensure that sufficient charge is present in capacitor 10 at the beginning of each sweep for linear operation of transistor 3. Components 19, 20 may be replaced by a Zener or conventional diode (Fig. 5, not shown).
