Abstract

623,522. Coal-mining machines. LOGAN MINING MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and LOGAN, W. A. May 13, 1947, No. 12873. [Class 68 (i)] The haulage cable 2 of a coalmining machine is secured to the front of the machine and passes round a pulley 5 at the forward end of the working and back to a capstan 1 mounted on the machine. The drum of the capstan 1 can only take a few turns of the rope which then passes round a pulley 7 at the rear end of the working face and back to a tensioning drum 3 mounted on the machine. The tension on the rope exerted by the drum 3 can be adjusted either manually or by automatic means.
