[Class 68 (i)] A mining machine of the chain-cutter type has a horizontal cutter jib 10 carried by a gear-head casing 11 slidable on an inclined part 13 of the machine body to vary the height of the cut ; the movement may be effected by a hydraulic ram 15, screw gear or other means, and the incline may be upwardly and rearwardly as shown, or upwardly and forwardly. A further chain jib 16 may be provided.
