674,715. Mining-machines. JOY MANUFACTURING CO. May 20, 1948. [May 28, 1947] No. 24436/50. Divided out of 674,626. Class 68 (i). In a mining machine of the type described in Specification 674,626 the disintegrating apparatus is moved with such force and speed in upright planes to change the elevation of the attack on the vein of said disintegrating apparatus and the bits are so moved in orbital paths that, during at least the major portion of the movement changing the elevation of the attack on the vein, the mineral is detached from the face by a tearing action, the rate of change in elevation of the disintegrating apparatus during such movement through said vein exceeding the rate of true cutting of the bits.
