Abstract

622,566. Rotary pumps. VICKERS, Inc. March 28, 1947, No. 8393. Convention date, March 29,1946. [Class 110(ii)] A sliding-vane pump with an elliptical working chamber has ports and passages provided to secure hydraulic radial balance of each vane. The casing 10 has concentric outlet and inlet passages 12, 14, respectively which lead by passages 42, 44 to ports 38 and 40 in a right-hand bushing 34, the ports 38, 40 being arranged diametrically in pairs. Radially inwards of each port 38 is a recess 46 with a connecting groove 48, each port 38 having an extension groove 50; a similar groove 52 is provided at the end of a recess 46. Similarly radially inwards of each inlet port 40 are a recess 56 and a port 54. As each vane passes out of contact with a port 40 it is cut off from a slot suction port 54. As a vane approaches an outlet port 38 delivery pressure fluid is admitted to its front face through the groove 50 and to the vane bottom through a groove 52. The bevelled tip of each vane is lubricated by an oil film wedge. A drain hole 64, Fig. 1 leads to the suction passage 14. The bushings 36 are preferably of bronze and the casing ring 58 of hardened steel or highgrade cast iron such as " Meehanite " (Registered Trade Mark). The vanes are of hardened steel. Specification 395,693 is referred to.
