Abstract

620,984. Crushing apparatus. MOSES, R. I. Feb. 6, 1947, No. 3588. [Class 59] Material to be crushed or pulverized is allowed to fall or pass between the coils of helical springs, at least one of which is provided with a spring action of sufficient strength to exert a crushing or pulverizing effect on the material. Coal to be pulverized is fed from a duct b and falls down a shaft α between the coils of a series of stretched helical springs d, which crush the coal when they are released. The springs are stretched and released by rotating cams v<SP>2</SP> acting on pivoted levers v attached to the ends of the springs. Several shafts may be positioned side by side, the cams being driven by common spindles. The coils of the springs may have interengaging projections and recesses.
