Abstract
620,670. Moulds. FORGES & ATELIERS DE LA FOULERIE. Feb. 7, 1946, No. 3879. Convention date, Jan. 16. [Class 83 (i)] In casting an article from aluminium bronze, high-tensile brass, or other metal or alloy, rotation is set up in the flowing metal to throw out slag and then the rate of flow is reduced by passing it through a channel gradually increasing in cross-section towards the mould cavity. A mould for casting a thin article 7 has a pouring channel 1 entering a cylindrical chamber 3 tangentially so that slag &c. 4 is separated. A radial channel 5 widens at 8 where it enters a cylindrical chamber 6 axially. From this chamber the molten metal can pass by means of a radial vertical slit 9 into the mould cavity for the article 7. In a modification, the channel 5 enters directly the mould cavity for a thick article above which there is an open-topped chamber into which metal flows from the mould cavity, this being fed during cooling by said chamber.
