Abstract
764,536. Continuous-casting processes. BOHLER & CO., AKT.-GES., GEB. Feb. 16, 1954 [Feb. 16, 1953], No. 4541/54. Class 83 (1). In continuous-casting, material having the same composition as, or different composition from the melt, are added to the molten metal in the mould, and mixing is effected by moving the molten metal by means of a magnetic or electro-dynamic field. The added material may be cold, to increase the cooling rate, and granulated, and accelerated into the molten metal by another electro-dynamic field. Material of a high melting-point is preferably added in a pre-heated or liquid state. The field may be a rotary field, whose direction may be changed during the process, or a field tending to move the melt axially, or a rotary field and an intermittent, axially directing, field.
