620,359. Door stays. SUTCLIFFE, W. Jan. 15, 1947, No. 1436. [Class 65 (i)] A door stay comprises a bar E pivoted to one of the members connected and sliding through a guide bracket C on the other member, the bar being arranged to fall into automatic engagement with the guide bracket and having rigid with it a member J by which it can be moved to unlock it from the guide bracket. In the form shown the guide bracket is formed by an angle plate and the bar is of channel section, notched at H to engage the lower edge of the aperture in the bracket; a stop G is provided to limit opening of the door. The under-side of the stay-bar may be of stepped form to provide a stop shoulder at each notch. The member J is a rod fixed rigidly to the bar E and passing through a bracket A to act as a pivot for the stay ; its lower end has a handle T and is guided -in a slot in a bracket L, which may be formed in a unit with the bracket A. The bracket L may be formed with a handle, or a handle may be fixed to the member J above the bracket. In a modification, the bar E is formed as a solid rod, with notches cut in it and a sleeve or other stop fixed on its end, and is connected to a rod J of similar form by an elbow. The guide bracket C may be pivotally mounted.
