[Class 44] [Also in Group I] A latch for a sliding gate (see Group I) comprises a spring-pressed lever 8 which is pivoted inside the sliding part 4 of the gate and has an abutment 10 which protrudes through a slot to engage inside a socket 6 of the gate post 5. A sleeve 12 on the part 4 has a pin 13 projecting through a slot to engage a V-shaped groove in the lever 8. Longitudinal movement of the sleeve unlatches the gate. In a modification the sleeve and pin may be replaced by a rotatable barrel operated by a key and having a cam-shaped section to engage the lever 8.
