[Class 65 (i).] Relates to hinged windows and ventilators of the kind actuated by links or a cable connected to a displaceable rod or slide. According to the invention, the handle used for reciprocating the slide is hingedly secured thereto and is adapted to lock the window in any position by engaging in notches or other co-operating locking parts in or upon any stationary member. As shown, a hinged window 1 is actuated by a cable 6 which passes through a horizontal tube above the window opening and is secured to a vertical slide disposed within vertical tubes 3, 3a. The lower end of the slide is formed with a bracket 9 which projects through a longitudinal slot in the tube 3. To the bracket 9 is hinged a handle 8 by which the slide is moved to open or close the window. The window is locked in its fully open or closed positions by the engagement of the lower free end of the handle with notches 11, 12 formed in the slot of the tube 3. Several 'notches may be provided whereby the window may be locked in any intermediate position. A guard 13 secured to the bracket 9 and covering the slot is provided to protect the hand of the operator. In a modification, the lower end of the handle engages suitable stops or projections on the tube 3. Alternatively, the lower end of the handle may be forked, or may be shaped to fit over one side of the tube 3, and engage recesses or holes in a fixed plate behind the tube.
