Abstract

319,496. Beaton, G., H., (Representative of Johnstone, W. E. H.), and Beaton & Son, Ltd., G. Sept. 27, 1928. Sashes balanced by spring rollers. -A sliding window, having a rotatable spring barrel B tending to return the sash A to closed position, has means for locking the barrel in any position of the sash. The barrel B has an internal spring and is mounted on the sash by brackets C, D, two cables E secured to the barrel being also adjustably fastened to the window frame. The barrel spindle b<1>, Fig. 2, is carried by a plunger F having clutch teeth f engaging similar teeth on the barrel, the plunger being pressed in by a spring f<3> and withdrawn by a rod f<4> and crank H actuated by a rod J or Bowden cable. The rod J is operated by a fingar-piece j<3> and fixed thumbpiece M. In the case of a Bowden cable, a single lever is used.
