Abstract
620,173. Agitating fluids. HUDSON BAY MINING & SMELTING CO., Ltd., Oct. 9, 1946, No. 30194. Convention date, Oct. 11, 1945. [Class 86] [ALso in Group XXIX] A control valve for fluids required to be maintained in a state of agitation comprises a flexible, e.g. rubber, tube 10 through which the fluid is passed, a housing 11 enclosing, at least, a portion of the tube so as to form a chamber 12 to which a separate fluid under pressure is supplied, and the pressure exerted by this separate fluid is caused to fluctuate cyclically so as to produce a cyclic partial or complete collapse of tube 10. In the embodiment shown, the cyclic variation of pressure in chamber 12 is effected by alternately lifting and lowering a relief valve 14, the latter being 'carried on a pivoted arm which is lifted periodically by an adjustable striking pin carried on a shaft rotated by a motor. Each end of the tube 10 is clamped between a flange 16 on the housing 11 and a flange 17 on a union to which the pipe carrying the controlled fluid is connected.
