Abstract

Pitot-tube apparatus.-Flow meters and logs comprise a Pitot-tube, a rotary pump, blower, &c. producing a pressure equal and opposite to the pressure in the Pitot-tube, and means for measuring the speed of the pump &c. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the Pitot-tube pressure acts on one side of a diaphragm 4, the movement of which controls the supply of energy to a motor 9 driving a pump 10 which delivers to the opposite side of the diaphragm. In another form for measuring the flow of elastic fluids such as steam, a blower 24, Fig. 2, is driven by a turbine 25, supplied from the fluid conduit through a valve 30 controlled by the diaphragm. The diaphram may be replaced by a U-tube containing mercury.
